Silicon
Silicon metal, also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, is a new type of alloy product. It is an alloy smelted by electric furnace using coke, quartz ( or silica) as raw materials. The main component silicon conteny is about 98%, and the remaining impurities are iron, aluminium, calcium, etc.It is a silver- gray or dark-grey lump with high melting point, good heat resistance, high resistivity and excellent oxidiation.
Adding silicon metal to aluminium alloys makes them light and strong. So, they are increasingly used in the automotive industry. Used to replace heavier cast iron parts. Automotive parts such as engine blocks and tire rims are the most common cast aluminum silicon parts.
